CAPE CORAL, Fla. - The medical officers still under construction may not look like much just yet, but nurse practitioner Sue Hook has a vision.
'We will be a full-loaded well-run primary care practice,' Hook said.
It will be a full-run clinic for the working uninsured and under-insured.
It's a group Hook says she knows first hand is missing out on critical medical care.
'I've had patients who have been so sick that they felt like they couldn't call me and make an appointment because they couldn't afford the visit,' Hook said.
So she's stepping down from her job at Lee Memorial and setting up shop on Cape Coral Parkway.
It's called Samaritan Health and Wellness and it won't just be your average clinic.
'It won't be like oh I have to go that clinic, it will be like I get to go to Samaritan, they know my name, they know who I am,' Hook said.
Samaritan will be a full-service family practice clinic with flat rates.
An initial visit is $15 to set up a patient file, then $25 for a sick visit and $35 for a chronic care visit.
But most importantly, Samaritan will integrate primary care with behavioral health.
It will have mental health providers on staff.
'When I can talk to a counselor about a patient that I am caring for medically and possibly prescribing medication then I can be better at caring for them,' Hook said.
Samaritan offers what Hook calls Christ-centered care that focuses on mind, body and spirit.
She's partnering with local churches to raise funds and help them grow.
Hook says she's already received donations and volunteers and hopes to open the doors late October or early November.
