With Kim Kardashian and Kanye West spending £17 million on their wedding ...

Share on :

Two couples. Two very different wedding budgets.

While Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are rumoured to be splashing £17 million on their May wedding (May 24 we think - save the date), the thrifty Taylors from Penrhys in Wales did it for less than £1000.

And while the celeb couple are said to be planning to tie the knot twice in France, preceded by a civil ceremony in the US, the Taylors stuck with just the one.

42-year old mum of two, Debbie Taylor, got engaged to her partner, Mark, an incredible 20 years ago but refused to set a date because, as she explained to WalesOnline: 'I didn't want to get into mountains of debt just because of one, albeit special, day.'

Mark was FINALLY able to make an honest woman of her after she made a loan of £1000 from her local credit union go an awfully long way.

In comparison, Kimye's wedding invites are believed to have cost a mind-boggling £600 each alone (no idea - maybe they travelled by private jet?)

Here's how the two weddings compare.

The dress

Debbie's cost £100 from a Chinese seller on eBay. Job done.

Kim's planning three wedding dresses we're told and all will be custom-made. Those in the know think she'll be wearing gowns from Lanvin (the label she wore on her Vogue cover) and Monique Lhuillier, while we wouldn't rule out Alexander McQueen, designer of Kate Middleton's dress as Kim basically wants a royal wedding.

With custom-made designer wedding dresses costing around £150,000, that's a cool £450,000 for three - at least. Should have gone to eBay.

The suits

Debbie picked up some suits for soon-to-be-hubby and her son in the sale at M&S for about £150.

Imagine if Kim told Kanye she'd bought him a wedding suit - from M&S.

We think he might push the boat out and opt for one from Givenchy - did he mention he's best mates with designer Riccardo Tisci? He has also been spotted browsing the rails in the Paris boutique of Italian brand, Cifonelli, which specialises in bespoke suits, so he's keeping us guessing.

He'll probably drop minimum £10,000 on the whole outfit (and that doesn't include the bling).

The venue

Debbie went for the Ystrad Rhondda Labour Club and a family-catered reception at a cost of around £5 per head. Vol-au-vents for all. Awesome.

Kim's gone for the slightly more fancy Chateau Louis XIV outside Paris. The building is meant to resemble a 17th century castle but, as it was built just 6 years ago, comes with all the mod-cons a wannabe princess might wish for. Sadly, it doesn't have a balcony for that first kiss a la Wills and Kate but, not a problem, the couple are having a temporary one added - at an additional cost, of course.

Kimye are believed to be spending £75,000 on each of their 200 wedding guests. You do the maths.

Hair and makeup

Debbie did her makeup herself and got a friend to give her a cut-price do. Mate's rates. Call it £20?

Kim, who's recently gone back to blonde for the big day, has 24/7 access to her LA hair stylist and makeup artist. For a bargain £150,000 a year. Of course, there is the air fare to get them to Paris and you know how people always bump up their charges for weddings...

Rather annoyingly, Kim probably won't actually pay for much of her extravagant bash - she'll likely have an exclusive magazine deal for that. There's one Debbie didn't think of.
