Some people live and die for fashion-and others risk their lives by cutting in line for a pair of sneakers designed by Kanye West only to get shot in the foot.
Unfortunately for Isaiah Martinez, he was of the latter camp when he tried to jump the lengthy line at a Foot Locker in Bushwick early Saturday morning. Martinez was one of many who turned out early to the Knickerbocker Ave. shoe store in hopes of scoring a pair of Nike Air Foamposite Pro 'Yeezy' sneakers to the tune of $250.
Instead of waiting in the line that had formed before the sun came up, Martinez moved to the front of it, outraged a handful of fellow shoppers and wound up in an altercation that resulted in him getting shot in the foot.
'There were people camped out for the sneakers and Isaiah tried to cut the line,' Edison Cartagena, a friend of Martinez's and a shopper in line, told the New York Daily News. 'They get into a scuffle and one of the guys on line left and told Isaiah he was coming back with a gun. He came back and just fired off four shots. He probably shot him in the foot just to scare him off ... You know, send a message.'
The store's opening was delayed until 11 am, and that particular Foot Locker sold out of the latest Nike/Yeezus collaboration-which Kanye crafted before jumping ship to Adidas -before the end of the day.
Martinez is currently recovering and police reportedly haven't made any arrests. 'I don't think anyone should lose their life over a pair of sneakers,' Cartagena continued. We agree.
