While Anna Wintour may have issued a heartfelt editor's letter after Kim Kardashian's and 's Vogue cover hit shelves, it turns out, the editor-in-chief wasn't the brains behind the much-buzzed about issue.
So whose idea was it to put the couple on the front of the fashion bible?
That would be Vogue creative director Grace Coddington.
'There was a wedding story to be done,' Coddington said, while speaking with the Financial Times. 'And Anna [Wintour] probably had them in mind, because she had been seeing a lot of Kanye, so she said, 'Maybe we should shoot it on lookalikes.' And I thought, 'Why not just do it on the real thing? This is Vogue.''

As for why she believed the couple deserved a place on the cover?
'I do think Kim Kardashian represents this moment in our culture,' she said. 'I'm fascinated by her, in the same way I'm fascinated by the people I see on the street or the subway.'
Speaking about the experience, Coddington has nothing but praise for the couple and their daughter North West. 'It was fun. [Kim] is very professional. And the baby [the couple's daughter, North] is very well-behaved. We did millions of pictures and she did not cry once. I got quite upset we did not have the baby on the cover.'

Despite the success of the shoot, she anticipated the controversy that would come with the headline-making cover. 'I knew going in it would be controversial - I got an envelope from Texas, with the cover ripped up into little pieces inside - but the designers all sent me flowers, so I guess they were happy.'
However, the controversy certainly hasn't hurt the cover's sales as Vogue is currently on track to sell a record number of issues which feature the power couple.
According to Radar Online, the issue is projected to top the previous best-selling covers, including Beyoncé and Michelle Obama's, which sold 355,39 and 293,798 copies, respectively.

'The projections are that Kim and Kanye will likely sell almost 500,000 copies,' Radar reports.
Kim Kardashian's BFF Jonathan Cheban also took to Instagram to congratulate the brunette beauty, posting a screen grab of the Radar story with the caption, 'CONGRATS Kim...'
To which we say: congrats to the #worldsmosttalkedaboutcouple!
