Kim Kardashian - not every woman may agree with me, but I think it's wonderful that you've changed your name to Kim Kardashian West!
Kim Kardashian's Social Media Name Change: It's Great You've Taken Kanye West's Name
Yes, you're your own strong woman who has had a huge, multi-faceted and infamous career, but adding Kanye West's name to your own doesn't diminish any of your accomplishments.
Instead, it makes a statement to your new husband and to your baby daughter, North West, 11 months, that you are placing your family above all else.
Kim, you took to Instagram and Twitter today, May 28, just four days after your fairytale wedding, to change your monikers from Kim Kardashian to Kim Kardashian West. It was so important to you to let the world know how happy you are as a married woman, that you were even willing to interrupt your honeymoon to do it.
Take Our Poll
'Kim knows that she will be with Kanye forever. They share a child together and they will share their life with each other, so taking his name was exactly the thing she had planned with Kanye all along,' a source close to you and Kanye told HollywoodLife.com exclusively.
Kanye would have thought it was a major diss if you hadn't taken his name - it was really important to him to 'have his name attached' to the woman he married, the source also explained.
Kim, I think you are confident enough in yourself to know that being married and changing your name will not affect your career aspirations in any way.
However, it was a way to make your loving husband extremely happy and to show the world that you, Kanye, North West and any other children you may have, are a tight family unit.
Family is beyond important to both you and Kanye. You grew up in a very large, close-knit family. You're so tight, in fact, that you are still living in your mother's home with your husband and daughter while your own home is being renovated.
Kim Kardashian - You Can Honor Your Family and Still Be a Feminist!
Kanye was an only child, but he was also very close to his mother, Donda West, 58, who tragically died after having plastic surgery in 2007. Because of Kanye's only-child experience and the loss of his mom, he has loved becoming involved not just with you, but also with the whole Kardashian clan. He missed that as a youngster and teen.
Because it's so important to him, taking Kanye's name is a selfless move. It's not right or necessary for every woman who gets married. Taking your husband's name is a personal choice. For some women, it's a non-negotiable - they won't do it. For others, it's a decision made when they have children and want to have the same last name as their kids.
In any case, you can still be a feminist, a career woman and a strong woman in your own right, even if you take your husband's last name.
But I think you are also taking a stance against the transience of Hollywood, where marriages very often only last for months or even days - not years.
You and Kanye are committed for life and that's a hugely important and admirable choice. Taking Kanye's name is a symbol of that commitment! So congrats, Kim, on your marriage AND your life-long commitment.
