'Pacific Rim' hits theaters at 10 p.m. this Thursday, July 11, and it's already received favorable early buzz from one unexpected source: Kanye West. The 'Yeezus' rapper (and new dad) took to Twitter on July 3 with gushing praise for Guillermo del Toro's monsters vs. robots sci-fi epic, which has been generating mixed reviews from actual film critics.
I saw a pre-screening of Pacific Rim yesterday and it's easily one of my favorite movies of all time.

This is not another 'Robot' movie. Guillermo del Toro is a master.

Kanye's opinion aside, at this point Warner Bros. and Legendary have their studio fingers crossed that the $180 million action film, which stars Idris Elba and Charlie Hunnam, two actors better known for their TV work, won't go the way of recent summer box office bombs 'White House Down' and 'The Lone Ranger.'
'[Kanye]'s got great taste,' Elba said at the premiere. 'He's a visionary, so I was really excited he tweeted about it.'
