Oops!

There's nothing more cringeworthy than a celebrity taking centre stage only to crash and burn.

Just ask Johnny Depp who created a massive buzz on Twitter after slurring at the Hollywood Film Awards on Friday.

Luckily for the Edward Scissorhands actor, he's not the first a-lister who's stepped into the spotlight and delivered a super-awkward speech.

From blubbering awards winners to jilted ex girlfriends, there are a number of famous names who should have stayed quiet on the stage.

So in honour of those celebs who have made us wince over the years, here's a list of five mega-cringeworthy moments that we won't be forgetting anytime soon.

Kanye West interrupts Taylor Swift

Let's set the scene: the year is 2009 and Taylor Swift is a rising star who has just won Best Female Video at MTV's VMAs.

However there's a certain rapper in the house by the name of Kanye West who doesn't quite agree with the result.

So what does he do? He takes to the stage to proclaim that his pal Beyonce should be taking home the gong.

It was so insanely embarrassing that pretty much everyone involved probably wishes it never happened.

Even Queen Bey, who was sat in the audience, had a face redder than anyone elses.

Taylor Swift disses Harry Styles

Flash forward to 2013 and you'd think that Taylor would have learned a thing or two about accepting a speech and keeping hush.

But at the VMAs the hitmaker couldn't help but make a jab at an ex boyfriend and thank him for inspiring the song I Knew You Were Trouble.

OK so there's nothing particularly wrong with that - except that her former fella Harry Styles was sat only a few rows away from her in the audience.

You could cut the tension with a knife it was that bad.

That night we all learned a valuable (albeit a super-awkward lesson) about when it's appropriate to diss your ex.

Russell Brand says everything he shouldn't

What's a sure fire way to find yourself booted out of an award ceremony?

Just ask Russell Brand whose cringeworthy speech got him kicked out of the GQ Men of the Year awards in 2013.

The king of saying what he shouldn't sealed his fate with a jibe at fashion firm Hugo Boss who were sponsoring the event.

On stage, the comedian said: 'If anyone knows a bit about history and fashion, you know it was Hugo Boss who made uniforms for the Nazis.

He also placed a finger under his nose, in a Basil Fawlty-style impersonation of Adolf Hitler, and started goose-stepping.

Clint Eastwood speaks to a chair

In 2012 the race for the White House took a bizarre twist when Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood got involved.

The Dirty Harry star - who famously said 'Go ahead, make my day' - left fans wishing he hadn't tried to, as he stood up to support Presidential candidate Mitt Romney at the Republican party conference.

In a rambling 12-minute address, which had been due to last just five, the actor carried on a conversation with an imaginary Barack Obama. Yes, really.

Speaking to an empty chair, he asked: 'Mr President, how do you handle promises that you have made when you were running for election, and how do you handle them?'

Sound embarrassing? It was.

Gwyneth Paltrow blubbers

Whenever the words 'embarrassing' and 'speech' are mentioned in the same sentence, you can't help but think of Gwyneth Paltrow.

And that's because the blonde set the benchmark for cringeworthy acceptance speeches after winning an Oscar for Best Actress in 1999.

After wailing her way through three minutes she thanked everyone from 'Grandpa Buster' to her 'soulful partner Joseph Fiennes'.

Afterwards her speech was a laughing stock for months.
