The Kardashians are usually well aware of cameras nearby, but it may have slipped their minds at the worst possible moment during the MTV Video Music Awards.

Kendall and Kylie Jenner accompanied Kim Kardashian for the award show Sunday, and the reality trio managed to anger some social media users by appearing to be texting together during a heartfelt tribute to the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri.

Rapper Common called for a moment of silence for slain teenager Michael Brown and the people of Ferguson amidst the protests and clashes with police that have been ongoing since Brown, 18, was killed by cop Darren Wilson.

The 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' stars appeared to be the only people in the crowd not taking in the moment of reflection as a camera cut to where they were sitting. All three had their heads down and staring into their phones.

'An extra-special f--k you to the kardashian-jenner girls for texting during a moment of silence for ferguson,' one user, under the handle @AmandaRising wrote.

'I'm sorry that the moment of silence for Ferguson was interrupting the Kardashian's social life. What complete a-holes,' @EronisN added.

Others joked that the sisters had to Google what Ferguson is.

None of the Kardashian-Jenner clan has responded to the backlash yet on their Twitter pages.
