Kanye West Surprises Dave Chappelle Fans at Radio City
The music component of Dave Chappelle's nine-night stand at Radio City Music Hall doesn't officially start until next week, when the comedian will be joined by a roster of artists including Nas, the Roots and Janelle Monáe. But attendees of Friday night's show were in for a treat, as Kanye West made a surprise appearance to perform. As Complex reports, West took the stage for a three-song set of 'New Slaves,' Gold Digger' and 'Jesus Walks.'
Dave Chappelle's Rise From Rick James to Radio City: A Timeline
Dave Chappelle and Kanye West have a long history together. In a stop at The Tonight Show last week, Chappelle told Jimmy Fallon about his first encounter with West, who performed on Chappelle's Comedy Central sketch show just as his career was about to take off. Chappelle said that he knew that West was destined for stardom when he answered his phone backstage and told the caller, 'I'm at the edit for The Chappelle Show watching sketches no one has seen before ... because my life is dope and I do dope shit.'
Chappelle's shows at Radio City Music Hall, his first announced engagement in New York City in over a decade, continue through Thursday, June 26th. On Monday night, he'll be joined by Nas, followed by the Roots on June 24th, Busta Rhymes, DJ Premiere and Janelle Monáe on June 25th and Erykah Badu for the closing night.
