Kanye news in brief: cancelled tour, proposal snub, YouTube lawsuit …

Share on :

It's been yet another busy week in the life of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, with cancelled gigs, revelations of changed wedding plans, babywear launches, lawsuits. We appreciate that life is too short to keep up with the ever-changing world of the rapper with the most eventful life in music, so here's your handy one-stop guide to today's Kanye and Kim news.

1. Kanye has had to cancel a load of tour dates

The Yeezus tour has had to be postponed indefinitely because a truck carrying crucial equipment was involved in a crash, damaging said equipment beyond repair. An official statement from the West camp read: 'Yesterday, on the road to Vancouver, a truck carrying the Yeezus tour's custom-made video truss and 60ft circular LED screen was in an accident that damaged the gear beyond repair. This gear is central to the staging of the Yeezus tour, and central to the creative vision put forth by Kanye West and his design team at Donda.

'As a result of this event, it is impossible to put on the show and the Yeezus tour will be postponed until these essential pieces can be re-engineered and refabricated. Kanye West will not compromise on bringing the show, as it was originally envisioned and designed, to his fans.

'The Vancouver, Denver and Minneapolis dates have been postponed. Further details on the affected tour dates will be announced shortly.'

It's double bad luck for Vancouver - West had already postponed his 20 October show in the city.

2. Kanye tried to book Lana Del Rey for his wedding proposal to Kim Kardashian

But you know what? She turned him down.

Kardashian is, apparently, a huge fan of Lana Del Rey, particularly of the song Young and Beautiful, from the soundtrack to Baz Luhrman's The Great Gatsby. And so, as any besotted young man planning to propose to his beloved in a specially hired sports stadium would, West asked Del Rey to perform at the event, which was on 21 October.

But, we learn, according to 'a source' quoted by Radar: 'Lana politely declined, and didn't give any reason for not being able to perform. It was a very firm no from Lana and her camp. Kanye did try to push it, but didn't get anywhere. Kanye decided to hire an orchestra to perform the song for Kim, and he was much happier with how it turned out.'

3. Kim Kardashian is suing YouTube's co-founder

Another problem with proposing in specially hired sports stadiums: the proposal gets filmed and ends up online without your consent. Really, who hasn't had to go through that misery? So when Kim Kardashian discovered the YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley had posted video of the magic moment at his new site MixBit, what choice did she have but to consult m'learned friends?

Kardashian says Hurley had not been invited, but attended as a guest of someone who was - and promised both verbally and in writing not to publish details of the event. 'Hurley is well aware of such contractual restrictions - including not to usurp a person's right to tell a story on his or her own terms, and for his or her own emotional and financial benefit,' according to a lawsuit filed this week at Los Angeles superior court. The suit charges Hurley with breach of contract, fraud and unjust enrichment. Kardashian and West want damages and repayment of whatever Hurley made from the video.

4. Kim and her sisters are planning to launch a range of babywear

Look, even we can't face trying to think of something to say about this one. Let's just hope it doesn't result in the same strife that happened last time someone with marital connections to a music star decided to launch products for children.
