He usually opts for a much more laid-back look.

But Kanye West looked smart and sleek as he stepped out of his New York apartment on Saturday morning.

Wearing a long animal-skin coat, the 36-year-old hip hop star seemed ready to take on the music world, as well as the chilly weather.

Kanye - who is engaged to Kim Kardashian - teamed his slick coat with a black Aran sweater, leather trousers and brown suede shoes.

Finally he finished his look with a large Bottega Veneta duffel bag, which retails for $4,170.

Rushed into a waiting SUV, Kanye may have been on his way to do a sound check in nearby Atlantic City, where he is due to perform the latest date of his Yeezus tour at Boardwalk Hall.

Spotted enjoying a night out with Kim on Thursday, the music superstar looked decidedly less chic.

While the mother of his child looked her usual high-maintenance best in a black fur bolero jacket and suede skirt, Kanye donned a bizarre ensemble, which included a teal T-shirt, beige anorak and green balaclava-style hat.

Earlier in the week, dates were announced for the Australian leg of his tour, which will include May concerts in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.
