George Zimmerman vs. Kanye West in the ring, not good enough: Opinion

The rapper allegedly punched an 18-year-old after the teen allegedly launched into a diatribe of racial slurs and unsavory insults directed at his fiancee, Kim Kardashian. 'It was a little bit of an incredible reaction but probably warranted,' one witness said. West, gone by the time the authorities arrived, faces a misdemeanor if charged. The only plus about the whole altercation is that it happened at a chiropractor's office. (Francois Guillot / AFP / Getty Images / )

George Zimmerman wants to box Kanye West.

That would be a hot ticket, for so many reasons. But, we can do better.

Zimmerman, acquitted of the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin two years ago, has found a lot of ways to extend his 15 minutes of infamy. Now, he wants to go to the next level by participating in a bizarre celebrity boxing match on March 1.

We all know that the Trayvon Martin tragedy stirred up lots of questions about modern-day racism. Zimmerman is a white man responsible for the death of an unarmed black teenager. Zimmerman's choice to follow the boy that fateful day led to a confrontation, and Trayvon lost his young life.

Promoters for Zimmerman say he wants to face Kanye West in the ring because the rapper - known for his own strange confrontations (Sorry, Taylor Swift) - attacks 'defenseless people,' like photographers and a teen recently at a chiropractor's office.

Quick note: Kanye West is reportedly around 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 154 pounds. Zimmerman, when arrested, listed himself at about 5 feet, 8 inches, 194 pounds. But, media reports have Zimmerman tipping the scales at 300 pounds shortly before his trial.

More interesting is that CNN reports more than 8,000 people have volunteered to go one-on-one with Zimmerman, including much bigger (in size and muscle) rappers DMX and The Game.

The Game sports a tattoo of Trayvon Martin. So, you know how committed he would be to this little boxing bout.

I would prefer not to see or hear from George Zimmerman again. But, if he is going to stick around, I bet a lot of people would pay to see him face off in a boxing ring with The Game, the man whose repertoire includes songs like 'Aim for the head.' 'Til' we meet again' and 'The best revenge.'
