Kanye West Celebrates 10th Anniversary of The College Dropout on Twitter

Don't call it a rant.


Monday afternoon, on the 10th anniversary of the release of his acclaimed debut, The College Dropout, Kanye West took to Twitter with a lengthy celebration of the occasion: '10 years later I am still that same kid from Chicago,' he posted. 'Still dreaming out loud, still banging on the door.'


Featuring hit singles 'Through the Wire', 'All Falls Down' and 'Jesus Walks', The College Dropout emerged as a landmark in hip-hop history. Now a decade later, West pointedly thanked his fans for fueling his journey from Chicago State University dropout to .


Though it now might be difficult to remember, the Kanye West of the early 2000s was pigeonholed as a beatmaker, his rapping dismissed as an embarrassing side hobby. Convincing the industry to let him rap was Kanye's 'life's work up to that point,' and though the album now seems like a throwback to a more innocent time, in 2004 it was the result of years of 'constant struggle,' he says.
