An argument in favour of Big Day Out's continued existence: shows like Kanye West's set in 2012. Divided into several acts, his theatrics were some of the most elaborate the main stages had ever seen. It's not typical for a rapper to have such a bombastic performance but Kanye has always stood out like that. It was closer to Beyonce than Danny Brown.
TheVine's tall dark and handsome editor Marcus Teague went and saw Kanye on that tour, saying, 'you'd be forgiven for thinking this is West's idea of an afterlife.' It was resplendent.
For those who missed him, you'll get your second chance in April. Earlier today, one of TheVine's most illustrious and charming contributors Sinead Stubbins took the photo above outside Victoria Park station in Abbotsford, Melbourne. Depicting the contentious genius ascending to heaven, it revealed that tickets for the April/May tour will go on sale February 21.
Details are sketchy right now - but then, what more do you need to know than where to get tickets? - but this lines up with what FasterLouder speculated earlier this week about a series of 'mega tours' hinted at by Ticketek. We'll update as we hear more.
Incidentally, College Dropout turned 10 recently and SPIN got some of the best rap critics going to write a track-by-track retrospective. If you're into that kind of thing, you can read it here.
